TEAM MVP Day of Service
In Honor of SSG Jamie Jarboe Why We Serve On April 10, 2011, during his third deployment, SSG Jamie Jarboe was shot by a sniper in the Zhari District of Afghanistan. Despite enduring over 100 surgeries and unimaginable pain, Jamie fought with courage for nearly a year before passing away on March 21, 2012. In his final days, Jamie made one request to his wife, Melissa Jarboe: “Take care of my fellow service members.” This became the foundation of the Military Veteran Project, dedicated to preventing military suicide and serving veterans nationwide. TEAM MVP Day of Service honors Jamie’s sacrifice through meaningful, community-centered service. |
What Is the MVP Day of Service?
This initiative brings individuals, families, veterans, supporters, businesses, and civic groups together
to:
• Build and restore community spaces
• Create raised garden beds
• Support local veterans and families
• Deliver acts of kindness honoring military sacrifice
• Serve communities through hands-on impact
Every project completed is an act of remembrance. Every volunteer hour is a thank you.
Why Garden Beds? Why Service?
During recovery, Jamie found peace in routine, nature, and purposeful activity. From that spirit grew the
idea of healing spaces, gardens, and service projects that bring people together to rebuild hope, grow
connection, strengthen families, and support mental wellness.
