TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- On Saturday morning, former Kansas City Chiefs players teamed up with the Military Veteran Project to bring together 50 kids from around the nation to Seaman High School for a football training camp.

The kids all came from military families who have lost a service member, have one currently deployed, wounded or a veteran.

There were five former Chiefs players to teach them everything from tackling to touchdown dances. They even played a scrimmage with the kids to test their new skills.

Kevin Lockett was one of the former Chiefs present at Saturday's camp and said giving back to the community is a top priority.

"All of us belong to a group called the Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors. That's a group of former Kansas City Chiefs players, there's about 30 or 40 of us, and we do a lot of community work. So for us, this is an opportunity to come back and connect with the community and hopefully teach them some skills that we learned sometime in our careers," said Lockett.

The Military Veteran Project won the football camp in an auction at the 20/30 Active Club Gala.

Organizers of the event said the farthest a family traveled for the camp was Massachusetts.
