Air Date: January 1, 2014 Almost 3 years ago, a sniper in Afghanistan shot Melissa Jarboe’s husband Jamie. The bullet severed his spinal cord and he was left as a quadriplegic. After months in the hospital they found out he was terminal. Jamie asked Melissa to promise him she would help care for his fellow service members. Melissa used his life insurance money to fulfill his dying wish. She started the Jamie Jarboe Foundation, now called the Military Veteran Project. One of her biggest projects was to organize Topeka Kansas’ first ever Veterans Day parade, which was a huge success with around 2,000 veterans and supporters participating. Through her non-profit, Melissa also works with veterans daily, often visiting local VA Hospitals. Melissa plans to take the $50,000 5-hour ENERGY® Helps Amazing People surprised her with to fund warrior retreats and launch a patriotic paws program for veterans with PTSD through the Military Veteran Project.
